History of the Bethel Congregation
History of the
Bethel Congregation
In 1953 land was donated to the
Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints for
the construction of a Church at
the current site. In 1956, a
congregation was formed. At
first, the congregation met in
the basement of one of the
members. As the congregation
grew, it was decided to rent the
old Presbyterian Church at 82nd
and Webster Avenue. By
November, 1961, the church was
able to construct a building on
the land donated in 1953, the
current site for the church. By
1972, there was a need for a
bigger sanctuary which was
completed as an addition to the
old church in 1973 to form the
building as it now stands. More
recently in 1995 the church
aquired more land behind the
previous lot. This is being
used to construct a campfire
ring which should be completed
by the summer of 1996.
In addition to a santuary, the
new addition has a gym which
which is used regularly for a
Monday evening volleyball game.
The old sanctuary now forms a
meeting hall which is used for
various meetings, and parties.
We look forward to the
completion of the campfire ring
which will be used for various
activities particularly with the
youth.
